The former factory site of Palitoy, home to some of the UK’s best loved toy brands, will be honoured today with a Green Plaque. The Green Plaques are awarded to people and places around the country honouring historical and personal achievement.

Palitoy starting operating from Coalville, Leicestershire from 1937 and produced toys there right up to the mid 1980’s. Many great childhood favourites were produced there, including Tiny Tears, Play-Doh, Action Man, Care Bears and Star Wars.

The Green Plaque was first nominated by Bob Brechin, former Chief Palitoy Designer and creator of the famous Death Star Cardboard Playset, said;

“It is 80 years since Palitoy toys were first made in Coalville, I thought the famous toy company should be celebrated with a green plaque at this special time.”

The plaque has been unveiled today at Coalville Business Park, which now stands on the site of the former factory.
