Four Random Star Wars Thoughts

Anybody read Doctor Aphra? Well, I hope you do cuz it’s awesome as usual! The newest TPB involves Aphra and a few archaeologists’ acquaintances looking for some High Republic (tie-in alert!) relics. Also present is a gun-for-hire who goes by the name of Just Lucky. He’s a sharpshooter who really doesn’t take anything personally but has Aphra’s back if the price is right. Yet another Han Solo archetype in Star Wars. More on that in a bit. Unfortunately, Lucky sells out Aphra and co. to his current employer, the Tagge family. We later find out that he works for various crime families because of his brother, Pak. Pak is a degenerate gambler who seems to have no idea the position he put his brother in, or even his own dangerous position.

My number one question in a Star Wars story is who gets to play who in the movie? Lucky has great hair, a weakness for family and a willingness to kill. In keeping with the other characters in the trade, he appears to be Asian (or whatever that may be in Star Wars) like Aphra is. Kinda sounds like Han from the Fast and the Furious franchise! Played by action star Sung Kang, he has the same fabulous hairstyle as Lucky as well as the other characteristics. Perhaps most importantly, the character has previously gone by the alias of Han Seoul-Oh!

I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Book of Boba Fett I went on Twitter shortly before the world premiere of Solo and thought I saw a tweet I shouldn’t have. It described seeing Attack of the Clones’ Daniel Logan all grown up and scarred, looking like a bad-ass. As a result, I thought I was going to see a post-credit scene where Han meets up with Boba Fett. Think about, Logan is about the right age to go up against Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. Throw a flashback scene in Fett and even show a young Jabba, and it will go over like gangbusters! Keep in mind Logan can play the character with the same sense of honor, history and barbarism that Temuera Morrison played him in The Mandalorian.

One of the covers for Marvel’s High Republic comic has really caught my eye. #2 (3rd Printing) in particular. It shows two Jedi with lightsabers raised high as a light source with a Hutt crime lord full of holes with a dead Gammorean Guard lying near him and another henchman strung up behind him. While the write-up tells us nothing about this tableau, we can infer quite a bit. The Nihil, the new Viking Pirate super-threat gang in the High Republic, have paid a visit to a Hutt. The Nihil are brutal, using poison and overkill to make their point or make their money. We can only assume the Nihil came to this crime lord to make a deal or more than likely, just to assassinate him so he won’t get in the way. It’s a powerful image, and one that’s very interesting. What will the Hutt Lords do now? Is it revenge on their own or will they go into business with the High Republic?
It really sucks that DK cancelled the Mandalorian Visual Dictionary! I always look forward to reading those, finding out about the different characters and technology. I just hope it wasn’t because of the whole Cara Dune situation.

Michael F. Davis became obsessed with Star Wars after repeated viewings of The Empire Strikes Back on VHS and a 1983 viewing of Return of the Jedi in movie theaters. He also saw all the Special Editions in the theater, bought all the Shadows of the Empire tie-ins, and even took a bus trip to Maine to see The Phantom Menace. He is currently employed as a Librarian in the US but has always has his sights on a galaxy far, far, away….
