Star Wars: Special Edition: Docking Bay 94 Boba Fett bluescreen shoot

With the first episode of the second season of The Mandalorian thrilling Boba Fett fans the galaxy over, this couldn’t be better timed. Watch Mark Austin, Boba Fett from the Star Wars: Special Edition, film his scenes at ILM back in 1994, over 2 years before the US release of the film on 31st January 1997.

A huge thank you to Tim Greenwood for sharing this footage, an excerpt from his short film, A Time To Remember (2014).

December 6th 1994 on C-Stage at ILM, San Rafael, Marin County.

The agenda: Two shots. Shot 1 (the walk on) in the morning, shown in video. Somewhere a roll of behind the scenes stills were taken, archived at ILM.

Shot 2 (the exit) in the afternoon, not documented. George Lucas said he might show, but never did. Much to my disappointment. In his stead, Steve Williams took the helm and managed to correctly guess the lens and height of the original 1976 camera.

Docking Bay 94. To be added into the planned Special Edition of “A New Hope.”
