The latest edition of Ultimate Star Wars adds a selection of new entries from The Rise of Skywalker, and here’s a quick look at some snapshots from those pages.
First off, a look at the Knights of Ren.
We don’t know their origins, their species or their ultimate motivations, but there’s no doubt that the Knights of Ren – briefly glimpsed in The Force Awakens – will play a key role in The Rise of Skywalker.
He’s cute, there’s no doubt about that, but here we learn that D-O was built and designed by Babu Frik, the tiny alien who we believe repairs C-3PO. Built from spare parts – much like the Resistance – how much of a role will he play?
There are plenty of rumours surrounding Jannah – is she the estranged daughter of Lando Calrissian? – but what seems beyond doubt is that her warrior skills are legendary.
Kijimi looks set to be a vital location in Episode IX, and as we learn that Zori Bliss is the leader of the spice runners of Kijimi we have to wonder why our heroes visit the planet and seek her assistance.
‘Draw their power from a dark and ancient legacy’. That sounds like they are named for a very specific reason, not simply to honour the dark side of the past. Will they be as lethal as the Emperor’s Guards, or Snoke’s Praetorian Guards? We cannot wait to see.
The vehicles of The Rise of Skywalker harken back to the previous trilogy, with a gorgeously familiar Y-Wing (in red, just like my die-cast A New Hope Y-Wing was as a kid), the Sith TIE Fighter (a concept revived from The Force Awakens) and Kylo Ren’s new TIE Fighter, replacing his Silencer.
Stay tuned as we roll on in to Episode IX as more character, planet and vehicle details come our way.
