While the pandemic drastically changed what costuming groups like the Rebel Legion were able to do, it certainly didn’t stop them doing good things for people the galaxy over. Moving their efforts from boots on the ground events to the online realm they launched Rebelthon to benefit UNICEF’s emergency COVID aid and a further 3 events raising over $35,000 for COVID aid so far. They also launched Rebel Reads, and the second running of that event turns page one at 4.00pm UK time this coming Saturday 16th October on Facebook and YouTube.

Running for ten hours, the event will see celebrated authors, artists, editors, and audiobook narrators join the stream along with original Rebel Legion content, all designed to raise fiunds for Save The Children to provide education, healthcare and other necessities for impoverished children in crisis around the world.

The Rebel Legion’s celebration of all things Star Wars books and comics, Rebel
Reads is back for a second year! This free webathon event will stream on the
club’s Facebook and YouTube accounts, starting at 9 AM Pacific Time on
Saturday, October 16th. The broadcast will include over ten hours of original
video content featuring interviews with Star Wars authors, artists, editors, and
audiobook narrators interviewed by members of The Rebel Legion.

Rebel Reads is a video streaming webathon fundraiser to benefit Save The
Children in their goal of providing education and other critical aid to children
across the world.

This is the third webathon event hosted by The Rebel Legion. This international
fan-run organization began hosting webathons in 2020 as a response to club
members looking for a way to connect during the pandemic and to provide
much-needed support to charity and the community. Fueled by the passionate
global membership of The Rebel Legion, these webathons feature Star Wars
celebrity & fan interviews along with engaging member submitted content. So far
these three webathons have raised well over $35,000 for critical pandemic aid.
This year’s fundraiser for Save The Children can be found here.

We’re also encouraging our members to sew for Sew Powerful, which gives
reusable menstrual products to girls in Zambia so they can remain in school all
month long.
