Plagiarism in Movies: What Star Wars Copied from Other Movies

The Star Wars series is one of the most well-known and famous in pop culture. It would be impossible to include every work of art influenced by the Star Wars universe since the release of A New Hope in 1977. However, George Lucas’ space fantasy trilogy blatantly displayed its own inspirations. Star Wars is a synthesis of many things that came before it, from Flash Gordon to Akira Kurosawa’s films.

Dune, a novel by Frank Herbert published in 1965, had a significant influence on the development of Star Wars. From the settings in different galaxies to the plot arcs of their central characters, both series have a lot in common. Because they share so much DNA, Herbert claimed Lucas had stolen from him. In the 1970s, Herbert told an Oregon newspaper that the first Star Wars was “boring.” “I’m going to make every effort not to sue,” Herbert declared.

How to find plagiarism in your text?

It is a significant crime and can lead to the dismissal of your research paper or essay.

Many different types of plagiarism checkers are available. They use artificial intelligence (AI) and a high-quality and upgraded algorithm to discover plagiarism incidents. Because they are better than other tools at protecting users’ content and allowing them to get involved in more serious issues, fixgerald.com is a better choice for content creators. Artificial Intelligence (AI) software functions in a largely identical way. Typically, copying and pasting the text to be checked into the program window and then pressing the appropriate button is necessary.

These examples include some of the most prevalent parallels. Join the Nerdist Book Club to discover more about Dune if you’re already a Star Wars fan. Dune, Frank Herbert’s seminal work, is now being read by the group.

What are the parallels of plagiarism? We compiled a list of all the significant aspects of Star Wars that Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Herbert’s novel took from Dune before its December release.

Arrakis / Tatooine

To begin, consider the most obvious example: smoking. Dune and Star Wars both have worlds that are very similar. In the original Star Wars trilogy, Luke Skywalker hails from Tatooine, a desert planet in the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Paul Atreides and his family leave Arrakis for a barren and nearly uninhabitable desert planet on the outskirts of known space. Our heroes are called to their fate on both sand worlds, which play an important role in their own stories.

Farmers that Grow Dew or Moisture

Luke’s uncle, a moisture farmer, implants devices in the desert of Tatooine to gather moisture from the sky. Dew collectors, which are found on Arrakis, provide the same function.

Sandcrawler

Another Arrakis-Tatooine resemblance? Sandcrawler, a sort of vehicle, may be found at both locations. These gigantic vessels, which are “relics of a long-gone mining age,” are used by the Jawas in Star Wars. Arrakis residents mine narcotic spice melange using Sandcrawler in Dune.

Sandworm / Sarlacc

In Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the Sarlacc is a massive sand-dwelling monster with a multi-toothed jaw. These resemble the colossal sandworms from Dune. The Sarlacc can be found on Tatooine, whereas the sandworms may be found on Arrakis.

Spice

Spice is in high demand in both worlds. In Star Wars, Kessel’s mines are full of “spice,” a dangerous stimulant. It is the most powerful and sought-after drug in the universe, bestowing upon its user precognitive abilities as well as other mental and physical benefits.

The Empire/Imperium

In the original Star Wars trilogy, the Galactic Empire rules over the galaxy. Dune depicts the known universe as being ruled by an evil interstellar Imperium. An emperor is in charge of both of these monarchies. Both stories revolve around the fall of this dictatorship.

Princesses in Charge

Star Wars Princess Leia is a well-known figure. According to the series, she is Luke Skywalker’s sister. They have a powerful psychic and spiritual bond. When you hear this, Princess Alia of Dune, Paul Atreides’ spiritual and psychic sister, comes to mind.

Coming from a Villainous Family

In Star Wars, Luke and Leia’s secret lineage is revealed. They are the children of Darth Vader, the most iconic villain in the Star Wars story. In the film, Paul and Alia realize that they are linked to Vladimir Harkonnen, the main villain of Dune.

The Message / The Power

Star Wars characters may perform Jedi mind tricks owing to the Power, a mystical and ephemeral force. This may be used to manipulate and influence people. They may accomplish this by summoning the Voice, a power learned via mental training and used by the Bene Gesserit in Dune.

Darth Vader / Dundy Idaho

Jason Momoa, who portrays the House Atreides swordmaster in Dune, recently characterized his role as “Han Solo-esque.” It’s not difficult to see why we made the comparison. Idaho has been promised by House Atreides, although it barely appears in passing. To bring the people of Arrakis and the Atreides together, he becomes an envoy to the Fremen. When we consider the upcoming Dune film trilogy, we can see how he may be the contemporary rebel and ladies’ man’s Han Solo.

Robert Griffith is a great education writer. He is passionate about education and enjoys assisting elementary and secondary school pupils in achieving academic success. When he’s not coaching students, parents, and teachers, Robert likes to study about the universe and play with his dogs.
