Artist Luke Ross is interviewed by Janina over at Jedibibliothek, discussing his career to date, including of course his work on the Star Wars titles from Marvel.

Was there a noticeable difference in working for Dark Horse (in Republic # 78: Loyalties / Darth Vader’s Ascension ) and Marvel?

The big difference is that while working for Marvel, I have to pay particular attention to what is canon and what is not to avoid mistakes, but if I have the chance, I try to put in a few hidden allusions to Legends in order to do that more attentive reader who loved the material that published before the canon cut to put a smile on his face.

What do you think is your most successful illustration yet?

I am very happy with my drawing style with Darth Maul and Thrawn, and besides, Nolan Woodard has done an outstanding job with the colors in both of these comics. His paint job fits in well with my drawings and highlights them, which is why I think these two are my best ever Star Wars work.

What were your favorite scenes in drawing Thrawn and Darth Maul?

When Thrawn it’s a big page from issue # 4. Jody Houser asked me to draw a montage that describes a series of events that will result in Thrawn getting another promotion. I am very happy with this site because I was able to play with the layout to convey the passage of time.
