Sad news as 32Ten Studios, the current tenants of the former home of the George Lucas Theater and the ILM Model and Practical Effects Shop closed its doors for the final time last night. An historic location in the long storied history of Industrial Light & Magic, its closure ends a chapter that saw the visual effects for much of the original trilogy and a slew of classic 80’s and 90’s blockbusters created in those walls.

Australian artist Mark Raats posted earlier the news that yesterday was the final day of 32Ten occupying the legendary former home of ILM at 3210 Kerner Boulevard, San Rafael, CA 94901. An event took place attended by members of Industrial Light & Magic who were keen to mark the occasion as a vital location in the creation of visual effects closed for the last time.

A number of notable faces from the Star Wars galaxy were there, including legends from ILM, Steve Sansweet from Rancho Obi-Wan and Gus Lopez, who kindly allowed us to share this gallery of his pictures.

Stay tuned as well be bringing more coverage from this very special final night to the site soon.
