A young Star Wars fan in Honolulu received a memorable surprise on February 18 when Darth Vader and members of the 501st Legion appeared at the Calvin & Susie Welcome Center at Make-A-Wish Hawaii headquarters to help reveal his wish, according to local station KHON2.

Kaniela has a neuromuscular disorder, which makes the use of a wheelchair and feeding tube necessary.

“Despite daily medical challenges, he lights up when watching Star Wars and playing with his Darth Vader toys and mask,” representatives shared. “His love for the galaxy far, far away inspired a wish that brings comfort and excitement to his journey here at home in Hawaii.”

A handful of members from the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Legion assisted with the reveal, bringing Darth Vader and Stormtroopers to deliver the good news in person. The group later shared the moment on social media.

Kaniela was thrilled to see Darth Vader and Stormtroopers! He had so many suggestions on how Darth Vader and the Empire could be more efficient in doing things. Truly a huge fan of the Force.

The upcoming wish has been made possible through the support of the Yamane Family Endowment. Make-A-Wish Hawaii grants wishes for children facing critical illnesses across the islands.
