Mos Eisley has its Cantina and Takodana is home to Maz Kanata’s castle drinking hole, but over here in the UK, folks in the Midlands got to experience a taste of the galaxy far, far away at Claptrap, in Stourbridge.
Claptrap. It’s a great name isn’t it? Fellow Fantha Carl Bayliss is a familiar visitor, playing drums in 6 local bands makes him pretty much a fixture.
So when Carl discovered plans for a Star Wars themed night in the upstairs function room, commemorating Star Wars Day, he was always a dead-cert for attending.
I joined Carl and a group of fellow Star Wars fans for the May 4th celebration.
Costumed characters are a must at such events, with Mel Johal and Amanda Lynn from Central Legion as stormtrooper and twi’lek bounty hunter respectively, adding atmosphere.
Star Wars films were projected onto one wall as patrons enjoyed themed cocktails.
Up and coming Halesowen comedian Jonathan Hipkiss took to the stage, introduced by Carl and a member of the team from Claptrap.
Jonathan, who has supported the likes of Jack Whitehall on tour, belted out a 40 minute comedy routine that was very funny, yet bluer than the bluest of blue milks! Well, it was late at night and the audience were all age appropriate.
A really great inaugural Star Wars event for the venue. Here’s to the next.
