MCM Birmingham Comic Con has a long and proud history, rolling right back to the mid 1990’s when the very first Memorabilia took place at the National Exhibition Center. Almost 30 years later a lot has changed, and now under the stewardship of MCM and ReedPop the show continues to bring thousands to the second city with interests covering the entire gamut of sci-fi and genre likes including Star Wars which is represeted at the show as always. Author Adam Christopher, who’s debut Star Wars novel Shadow of the Sith lands on 28th June 2022 will be on the Live Stage from 2.45pm to 3.30pm discussing Licensing in Fiction…and he’s going to be chatting with me as I host the panel to discuss Stargate, Stranger Things and of course Star Wars.

Live Stage
Exploring an already-established fictional world through books is something we’re all familiar with. But how does it actually work? Author Adam Christopher regularly works on licensed fiction in the worlds of Star Wars and Stranger Things and is here to talk about the relationship between creator and corporation. How do you expand a canon that already exists? How do you balance your own writing desires with the wants of the corporation you’re writing for? Should you write to the expectations of the fanbase or not?

Adam Christopher’s debut novel Empire State was SciFiNow’s Book of the Year and a Financial Times Book of the Year. The author of Made To Kill, Standard Hollywood Depravity and Killing Is My Business, Adam’s other novels include Seven Wonders, The Age Atomic and The Burning Dark. As a writer of licensed and tie-in fiction, Adam has written the official tie-in novels for the hit CBS television show Elementary, and the award-winning Dishonored video game franchise. Co-creator and co-writer (with Chuck Wendig) of the 21st century incarnation of Archie Comics superhero The Shield, Adam has also contributed prose fiction to the world of Greg Rucka and Michael Lark’s Lazarus series from Image Comics. Adam is a contributor to the internationally bestselling Star Wars: From A Certain Point Of View anniversary anthology series, and has written for the all-ages Star Wars Adventures comic from IDW. His forthcoming Star Wars novel Shadow of the Sith, starring Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian as they hunt Sith assassin Ochi of Bestoon, will be published in June 2022.
