Necessity is the mother of invention, and the demands of A New Hope – indeed every Star Wars film – has furthered the world of special effects via ILM, just as his singular vision for Star Wars changed the world of movie marketing, his keen ear the sounds of movies via Skywalker Sound and most importantly the collective brilliance of the thousand daily decisions he made formed the cultural megablast of the saga.
All a long-winded way of saying thank you George Lucas, and many happy returns on his 75th birthday.
