News comes in from the BJC website, one of the most trusted sources in Brazil for films, DVDs and releases regarding the future of Disney physical formats in Latin America.

As of November 2020, there will no longer be a company officially licensed to do the marketing and distribution of Disney’s Physical Media in our territory. Cinecolor who have the official license and rights of distribution for physical media for Disney in Latin America should be ending its distribution for Disney by the end of October. Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Brazil begin to say goodbye to their DVDs and Blu-ray products abruptly and without the prospect of one day returning to the Latin America market.

There is no indication that another company will be taking over the activities performed by Cinecolor today. On the contrary, with the arrival of Disney+ digital platform on November 17th 2020 in Brazil seems to have had a big impact for this decision to be taken. Mickey’s company seeks to force everyone to subscribe to its digital platform service and only consume its products through the online business model. A similar decision has already been reported in the United States involving Blu-ray 4K. But unfortunately, for us in Latin America, the attitude will be much more severe, leaving us with no choice.

The decision has a big impact and is overwhelming for the collector’s community.
This is against everything we are experiencing in the second half of 2020.
