With over half a century of association with Lucasfilm, stretching back to his starring role in American Graffiti in 1973 and decades of smash hits in the directors chair that also saw him take home the Oscar for Best Director in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind, Ron Howard is no stranger to success. Paired with Oscar winning actress Anne Hathaway and Academy Award nominated Adam Driver in Amazon MGM thriller Alone at Dawn there’s every chance this true story adaptation of Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz’s book of the same name will continue that impressive roster of films.

Ron Howard is no stranger to taking real-life stories and adapting them into incredible cinematic experiences, and he looks to have found that next powerful story to tell. Sources tell Deadline that Howard has come on to direct the Amazon MGM Studios drama Alone at Dawn, with Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway set to star.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz and is inspired by an incredible true story. Years after Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman fought to the death to save his fellow soldiers, an intelligence officer strives to prove his valor — leading an investigation that ultimately would secure him the Medal of Honor. Schilling is a military consultant on the movie and, like Chapman, also was a Combat Control Technician. Chapman Longfritz is Chapman’s sister.
