He’s overseen seasons worth of adventures in the realm of animation featuring Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice Ahsoka Tano, and the debut season of Ahsoka gave Dave Filoni the opportunity to port those characters into live action. Here, the Lucasfilm president discusses that transition, one that will be central to the second season which arrives in January 2027.

Ahsoka saw Anakin as her mentor. Now she’s facing him in a lightsaber duel. Dave Filoni breaks down how Lucasfilm translated Anakin and Ahsoka’s mentor-mentee relationship from the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars into live action for Star Wars: Ahsoka — and the creative vision behind Ahsoka’s flashback, which stands in stark contrast to the duel playing out in the present day.
