Episode 2 – Sagrona Teema
Official summary: Cassian caught in a rebel turf war. Mon’s wedding woes mount. The Ferrix survivors face inspection.
Trivia
And we are back to using in-universe curses with an old favorite from The Empire Strikes Back: E chu ta.
Also back is Adams Place Canary Wharf as the filming location for the exterior walkway to the Imperial Security Bureau headquarters on Coruscant.
On Mina-Rau we are introduced to the Mina-Rau General Store of Kellen (performed by Ryan Pope) and Aneth (Alison Pargeter), the parents of Beela (Laura Marcus) who we also saw in the previous episode. In the window there is a sign with four glyphs, but the first is not Aurebesh. The other three spell out OOS. Later, in an exterior shot, there is a sign on the right that appears to read ‘Drink’.
Back on the jungle planet (which will be revealed later in the episode as Yavin 4) we are introduced to a Yavin 4 melon and trogs. Trogs are probably a play on frogs, but trog-beasts are beasts liking to stampede and once mentioned in the novel Aftermath: Life Debt.
The food packages, who do not look that different to the portions from Rey in The Force Awakens, have Aurebesh reading: ‘Beans’, ‘Ready’ and ‘Tov Tov Tov’. Tov is the Hebrew word for good.
Syril Karn was indeed not so long introduced to the Bureau Of Standards, as it happened last season, or a year ago from the in-universe point of view.
Syril mentions Varnesian, which could very well be a reference to the inhabitants from the planet Varn from Legends (Han Solo’s Revenge). We could not match Kovarn charging rods to something existing.
Corporal Pyke (David Omordia) of the Imperial inspection team asks first if he can pay by credits. Which is a nod to that Outer Rim worlds could favor the local currency, as seen in The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon’s Republic credits were no good for Watto.
Corporal Pyke then asks for Peezos, which was something Cassian had to buy on Niamos as well in the previous season.
The name Pyke is also an alien species that we have seen a lot since The Clone Wars, with memorable appearances being Solo and The Book Of Boba Fett.
Lieutenant Krole (Alex Waldmann) is the leader who questions Bix outside.
The Ferrix survivors are living on Mina-Rau under false names, with Bix being Zala.
Sagrona Teema from the title is mentioned at the party and is apparently a toast to good health.
Five Hands, as played by Roski Rules, is a game based on Rock Paper Scissors in which players pick between 15 different animal gestures. Among the creatures used in the game are rancor, snork and snoozbird. The last two are new and not yet seen creatures within Star Wars.
That’s a Yavinian doodar attacking the Maya Pei rebels, allowing for Cassian to escape. This is a new creature inspired by a hippo and named after its designer Alexander Dudar.
