Episode 7 – Messenger
Official summary: Yavin is growing. Wilmon comes for help. Dedra’s on Ghorman. Cassian heeds the call.
Trivia
Two X-wings and an, as of yet unidentified, shuttle are flying over a Yavin river (or lake) to reach the Rebel Base that we all know and love. In multiple sources, both canon and Legends have added such bodies of water before to Yavin Four, especially games like Star Wars: Galaxies and Jedi Academy.
Now the Rebel Alliance has settled on Yavin Four in 2 BBY, how does Dantooine fits in as a previous used rebel base?
“It’s like poetry, it rhymes” is something that George Lucas said about Star Wars, and while there are many examples of that within the series (Cassian and Syril being mirrors of each other for example) there is another clear example to that in this episode. We see new recruits arriving at Yavin and on Ghorman, yet where the rebels are excited and rushing in to help, the Imperial cadets are unenthusiastic and more forced into things.
With the Temple still undergoing preparations to live in, there is a camp built outside. Cassian is living in a house built around trees. In fact, one of the sleeping mats are tied to to those trees that can be spotted inside.
On Yavin Four you can spot many familiar species like: a Tarsunt, a Shozer, two Zuzabol, a Shahkirin and others.
On Ghorman we are have a couple new places, most likely cities mentioned: Corei and Jel-Novi.
We also have a couple new Imperials: Admiral Tyzen (mentioned only), Captain Kaido (performed by Jonjo O’Neill) and Sergeant Bloy (Tomi May), who comes in with the new recruits.
The news reporters have floating cam droids with the word “news” written on them in Aurebesh. The cam droids are of a new type, but based on those introduced in The Phantom Menace. Rhil Dairo and T-9 are an important example of a journalist and her droid, as seen in The High Republic.
The lab on Eadu that is working overtime to find a suitable replacement to Kalkite is of course the one seen in Rogue One and where Galen Erso leads his team.
The Force healer on Yavin Four has not received a name, but the actress was Josie Walker.
And with Draven we get another important Rebel Alliance member back. The same goes with the mention of Dodonna.
Draven wants to refit the U-wing that Cassian is leaving with, and presumably others, with hyper-comms so they can communicate through hyperspace. Which is what we see them use in Rogue One.
“Stone and Sky” is a Ferrix saying which we heard prominently during Maarva’s funeral procession before the fighting broke out.
Cassian is undercover as a journalist for Mid-Rim News, which the hotel clerk (unnamed, performed by Anne-Sophie Marie) has never heard of. And neither have we as it is completely new.
Not new is the person checking Cassian in, as that is Thela again who brought Cassian to his hotel room in episode 2×05 – I Have Friends Everywhere.
