Listeners to our music podcast, Desert Planet Discs, will know the name and music of F-105 as they’ve featured in several shows to date, and with new music from the latest release ‘Side B’ to air in our next episode too.
The main man behind F-105 is Canadian singer-songwriter Din, and over the years he has provided fandom with a soundtrack through his music both under the current moniker and his previous band The Soles.
Drawing influences from not only real life but also the galaxy far, far away he has performed at Star Wars Celebration and undertook a world tour for the release of his last album, meeting up with many fans along the way. Following on from the release of ‘Side B’, he has also put together a musical journey through the stages of Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero’s Journey’ which of course runs through the very DNA of Star Wars.
In his own words:
“Here is a list I curated of songs I’ve written and where they fit into the 17 steps of the Hero’s Journey, found in Joseph Campbell’s classic book ‘The Hero With A Thousand Faces.’ I needed to wait until the recent release of F-105 II: Side B for songs in the final steps. F-105 II: Side A (to be released in the future) will complete it. These songs are not literal, not simply telling a story with characters from other myths and stories, they work poetically (hopefully) to place the listener their own Hero’s Journey, for whatever moment they are in. I perform now as F-105, formerly The Soles. This complete list is what I’ve been working towards my entire creative life, hope you enjoy! – Din”
