Forbes have posted their list of the top 250 American innovators, compiling a list that includes within its top 50 such iconic names as Ed Catlull (the co-creator of Pixar) at #43, Steven Spielberg (who needs no introduction whatsoever) at #29 and at number #4, behind only Elon Musk (who isn’t American), Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates is George Lucas, for all the tangible reasons we know so well, and so many intangibles beyond.

One of the founding fathers of the modern blockbuster, Lucas also revolutionized movie merchandising, unleashing a never-ending tsunami of Star Wars action figures and Indiana Jones lunch boxes. Through his special effects house Industrial Light & Magic and THX sound outfit, he sold his tools to other moviemakers.
