Not only is Wicked racing towards a $600m global haul, with $573m in the bank so far and a busy festive box office weekend ahead, but director Jon M. Chu can also take this to the bank – after seeing the movie, George Lucas got his number and called him to personally congratulate him on a job well done. If there’s something worth more than gold to a film director, that just might be it.

“He was still at the mall where he’d just seen the movie. He couldn’t have been more kind. He’s like, ‘I see all the elements in that movie. I know how hard it is to pull it all together.’”

“It’s so nice when you see leaders like that, creative leaders who actually reach out. I didn’t know that happened and are just so kind and say we’re doing this together.”

High praise indeed, and if you have yet to see Wicked on the big screen – which features Visual Effects by ILM and sound by Skywalker Sound – then now’s the perfect time.
