Good luck Michael Jibson at Sunday’s Olivier awards

This Sunday is one of the most special nights in UK theatre’s diary as it is time for the 2018 Olivier Awards.  However, you may be asking yourself why we are reporting this on a Star Wars page.

As well as Star Wars, a few of us here are big fans of the theatre and especially the show that has taken the West End by storm – Hamilton.  So again, you may be wondering what the Star Wars link is? The answer is simple.

The actor currently playing King George in the west end is Michael Jibson who will be best known to most of us as Kylo Ren’s shuttle pilot, Jober Tavson. Michael is also a lover of all things Lego and Lego is his weapon of choice when it comes to filling in time between his appearance on stage – as shown by this stunning picture he posted on his Twitter feed (you can follow Micheal on twitter @mikejibson).

Tavson wisely decides to set the shuttle down (against Hux’s orders) when requested by Kylo which hopefully means he survived to see Episode IX. Between the Star Wars films, Jibson has been incredibly busy.  You may have seen him as the Tavern Keeper in Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast or maybe you heard him as “Wilson” whilst playing Battlefield 1. He is also a regular in numerous TV shows.

However, on Sunday all eyes will be on Michael when the award for “Best Actor in a supporting Role in a musical” is announced as he has been nominated for the previously mentioned portrayal of King George.  I am also happy to say that at least two Fantha Trackers will be cheering him on at the Royal Albert Hall as both Paul McQue (pictured below with Michael) and myself are putting on the black ties and attending.

So, from all the Fantha Trackers good luck on Sunday Michael and we hope to see you in Episode IX.
