Listeners to Desert Planet Discs podcast should already be aware of the work of the Dark Lord of Rock n Roll, but to kick off 2022 Darth Elvis (aka DPD co-host Greig Robertson) drops his latest track, a parody of the Johnny Cash version of Depeche Mode’s classic ‘Personal Jesus’, in honour of the ruthless Jedi hunter and Separatist military leader with a cough, ‘General Grievous’.

Aided by his ‘Friends’ (Blues Harvest’s Andy Lyth and DPD co-host Carl Bayliss) the track has been given the Darth Elvis treatment, and has a stunning video to accompany the track which launched at 3.00pm UK time on 31st January. The voice of Grievous Matt Wood was treated to an advance viewing and came back with a one word review “AMAZING!!!!!

Featuring Grievous himself, played by UK Garrison member Dean Smith and credit to Mrs Elvis (Holly) and Junior Grievous (Ashton) for their camera work, the whole thing was edited by Andy Lyth, including some excellent lightsaber effects (I feel a call from ILM won’t too far away).

And as an additional challenge, can you spot the nod to one of maestro John Williams’ prequel themes?

Carl Bayliss
