While no confirmation of any kind has been made by Lucasfilm, Knight Edge Media are claiming that Jon Watts – linked to an unconfirmed future Star Wars movie project – may have worked on an 8-part Star Wars TV series for Disney Plus, alongside Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford. Described as a western, in the same way Skeleton Crew was a pirate adventure, the rumour has a full writers room working from January through to August this year, bringing together eight episodes, just like Skeleton Crew.

It was recently reported that Watts was set to direct the first installment of a new Star Wars trilogy written by Simon Kinberg. No official title has been announced, but the film is believed to be Episode X, continuing the Skywalker Saga. No characters or cast members have been revealed to be a part of it, and it remains unclear when filming might begin. A release date has not yet been set.

Watts directed the first three Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, including 2017’s Homecoming, 2019’s Far From Home, and 2021’s No Way Home. He transitioned from Marvel to the world of Star Wars as the co-creator of Skeleton Crew, which premiered on Disney+ in 2024. His last feature film as director was 2024’s Wolfs, an Apple TV crime thriller starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

Would you welcome the return of Jon Watts and Chris Ford to Star Wars? Watts is one of a select few who have taken a trilogy to well over $4bn, so either way write in and let us know on news@fanthatracks.com and we’ll read out your thoughts on a future episode of Making Tracks.
