Lucasfilm have announced that Gina Carano is not under an employment contract with them, and they have no plans to work with her in the future – following a spiralling period of increasingly extreme social media posts by the actress. Carano plays Cara Dune in the Disney Plus series, The Mandalorian.
Carano has for many months been posting, sharing and liking messages on and to Twitter, Instagram and Parler undermining the wearing of masks, endorsing unsubstantiated claims of US election fraud, as well as denigrating minority groups such as the transgender community.
These messages have come at a time when a pandemic is sweeping the world and the World Health Organisation endorses the use of masks to reduce virus spread, an insurrection was attempted on the US Government Capitol building, and family members of The Mandalorian cast have been going through gender realignment.
In the past 24 hours she has compared “hating someone for their political views” today to being Jewish under Nazi rule.
Millions of Jewish people and other minorities were executed at the hands of the Nazis during World War Two.
In a very clear and strong statement Lucasfilm said:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.
“Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Variety also report that her agent, UTA has also dropped her.
Prior to Lucasfilm’s statement the hashtag #FireGinaCarano had been trending on social media, as fans made clear their feelings on the latest of Carano’s messages.
