While his name was perhaps not as intrinsically linked to the Star Wars story as it was the Alien and Back to the Future franchises, the imagination of Ron Cobb has been a constant in our lives for well over 40 years. His cantina alien creatures designs brought us the Gotal, the Duros (riffed upon in The Phantom Menace to create the Neimoidians) and the Ithorians – best known to longtime fans and Vintage collectors as Hammerhead.
Today, we can see a living, breathing Ithorian in the form of Dok Ondar at Galaxy’s Edge, and that unique creativity is remembered by Mark Hamill who paid tribute to Cobb online.
Ron Cobb was a giant in his field. His impact on sci-fi & fantasy films is immeasurable. Thank you for a lifetime of brilliant contributions & your incomparable imagination. #RIPRonCobb https://t.co/1muckonjaS
