Not too bad for a film that’s been released numerous times and celebrating its 40th anniversary. Return of the Jedi grabbed around $4.6 million at the US box office, easing itself into the number 5 slot for the week, a fantastic return for a film that seems to have grabbed the attention of fans and cinemagoers everywhere.

“Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” — yes, the one from 1983 — took the No. 5 spot with roughly $4.7 million from a mere 475 theaters. Disney brought the film back to theaters to commemorate its 40th anniversary and proved the fandom remains strong. After several re-releases, “Return of the Jedi” has grossed $311 million in North America and $475 million worldwide.
Remember, while those numbers may seem light – for example, the new The Super Mario Bros. Movie has crossed a billion worldwide in just a few weeks – that’s mostly 1983 money. Adjusted for inflation, the domestic total for Return of the Jedi would be a dizzying $885,749,351, beaten only by The Empire Strikes Back with $944,208,296, The Force Awakens with $1,198,927,648 and the almost certainly unbeatable A New Hope with $1,849,905,133.
