We know him best as the heroic Imperial-turned-Rebel Bodhi Rook who coined the name Rogue One in Gareth Edwards 2016 classic, and the years since have been very kind to Riz Ahmed as not only has he won an Emmy and been nominated for Oscars, BAFTA’s and Golden Globes but he’s now joined an elite cast of actors who have featured in a Wes Anderson film. Taking a role in Anderson’s untitled feature, he’ll be starring alongside fellow Star Wars star Benicio Del Toro and the legend that is Bill Murray.
Benicio Del Toro and Bill Murray are also on the call sheet for the project. The feature has a script from Anderson and Roman Coppola, who has worked on five of the filmmaker’s movies. Michael Cera, also cast in the picture, is among the other Anderson first-timers.
Ahmed has shown his versatility, going back and forth from gritty indies to large studio blockbusters. He earned an Oscar nomination for his tour de force performance in the acclaimed drama Sound of Metal and won the Academy Award for best live-action short film in 2022 for The Long Goodbye.
He also appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Sony’s Marvel movie Venom and the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Nightcrawler. He won an Emmy for his turn in the miniseries The Night Of.
