While the process of becoming a Jedi Padawan at the tail end of The High Republic era may seem largely troublefree, for the then seventeen-year-old Dafne Keen there were a few complications, including a hotel gym, a fire alarm and an evacuation.

“I was underage, so I was staying in a hotel and my chaperone was staying in another room, and I would go train in the hotel gym.

The hotel gym was quite low. It didn’t have high ceilings, and I was doing this thing that you do over your head, and I hit a fire alarm.”

That was just the beginning of the fun. “The entire hotel started going ‘BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!,’ and then they evacuated the whole hotel.”

After the hotel cleared out, it was time to find the culprit, the same culprit who almost missed her job interview to be on the show in the first place. “I stood outside with my stick, and they were like, ‘It originated in the gym.’ And then they looked at the CCTV, and the CCTV is me just like [doing a lightsaber move above my head].”
