The Davis Order: A new way of watching the Star Wars series

In these days of Quarantine, people are looking for a new way to be entertained. But we are Star Wars fans, we know what entertains us.

Years ago, fans only knew of one way to view the Star Wars movies – it would have to be in the order in which they were released, right? Or in chronological order? Right? Then came some dude who invented the MACHETE ORDER!

Well, now I have something that I’ll call…the Davis Order. Just because I was bored one day and wanted to post a new way of watching the greatest movie series in cinema history.

Rogue One: We’re starting off with this movie because it’s the unofficial start of the Original Trilogy; it takes place right before A New Hope (AKA Star Wars). Since it’s a relatively new movie, you can start off with a modern movie before diving into the 70’s-ness of the first Star Wars movie. This movie sets up the Rebellion, the Empire and the general state of the galaxy. It also has a killer Darth Vader scene at the end, so you should definitely be afraid of this dude next time you see him. Oh, and what’s a Jedi?

A New Hope: We just watched the “rebel attack” listed in the crawl, witnessed the might of Darth Vader and Moff Tarkin, and was introduced to hope by Princess Leia. With this movie, we jump feet first into this 9-movie saga.

The Empire Strikes Back: Pretty much acknowledged as the greatest movie ever. But let’s talk about the end. Luke Skywalker just found out his father is Darth Vader. Since we didn’t watch the Prequel trilogy first, the surprise about Luke’s parentage is preserved. But, how, and what about Obi-Wan and how the Emperor came into power, and….

The Phantom Menace: The next three movies (the Prequels) serve as now as a flashback in the Original Trilogy movies. You see from the beginning Anakin, Obi-Wan and the Jedi at their prime. It wasn’t acknowledged in the Machete Order, but it does show first meetings, how the galaxy used to be shiny and bright. On a side note, it also shows Darth Maul – one of the scariest introductions to such a brief character.

Attack of the Clones: Not my favorite movie, but it shows how those “Clone Wars” Obi-Wan talked about came to be.

Revenge of the Sith: As the movie ends, you see how the Republic became the Empire and how Darth Vader turned to the Dark Side. Now you want to find out what’s going on with Luke Skywalker and the Rebellion.

Return of the Jedi: You’re back to the saga of Luke Skywalker. You still remember Anakin as a great Jedi and the evil of the Chancellor. Also, the secret of Leia being Luke’s brother isn’t as jarring since you’ve seen Sith. Once you’re done with this, go do some extra credit and watch The Mandalorian series.

The Force Awakens: A brand new trilogy begins! Obviously, it’s the next logical step in the saga. Plus, you find out what happens to the Original Trilogy characters.

Solo: A Star Wars Story: Now wait a minute, Han Solo just died! Yeah, I know, that’s why you’re watching the underrated classic Solo now. You also think back to Empire and Lando Calrissian; and to The Phantom Menace and Darth Maul.

The Last Jedi: You just had a bit of a breather with Solo after the events of Force Awakens. You’re fully invested in the new group of heroes.

The Rise of Skywalker: The final chapter in this long saga. You still remember Emperor Palpatine in both trilogies and the Sith evil he represents.

And now you have a brand new way to watch the movies that exclude none but also makes you watch them in different way.
