Official summary: The Mandalorian visits an opulent world.
Trivia
The ship used by Captain Shuggoth is an unknown design. This is also a bit of a reversal from what we are used to with the Mon Calamari often being portrayed as the shipbuilders. In fact, this appears to be the first time we ever saw a ship build by the Quarren.
Shuggoth was performed by Joanna Bennett and voiced by Christine Adams. We saw Joanna Bennett before as the female Tusken Raider warrior who Boba Fett dueled against in The Book of Boba Fett.
The name Shuggoth is a nod to Shoggoth, a squid-like monstrosity from H.P. Lovecraft‘s Cthulhu Mythos.
This episode marks the first time that we hear Quarrenese spoken out loud. The language itself has been around since 1994’s publication of The Jedi Academy Trilogy, Volume 2: Dark Apprentice.
They mention Trask, which was the world seen in the recap where Bo-Katan and Din Djarin stole the Gozanti freighter in Chapter 11.
The war between Mon Calamari and Quarren is indeed something that we have always seen between the two species. Most notable within the first three episodes of The Clone Wars, season 4: Water War, Gungan Attack and Prisoners. These episodes also featured another Mon Calamari Prince: Lee-Char.
Sadly Shuggoth’s lover, the son of a Mon Calamari viceroy and a Prince according to Koska Reeves, goes unnamed. He was played by Tom Holland’s (Spider-Man) younger brother, Harry Holland.
There is a possibility that this Mon Calamari Prince is also the Mon Calamari noble that Din Djarin was offered a bounty puck for way back in the first episode of Season 1.
The planet of Plazir-15 is new, and featured a couple of surprise star cameos with the actor/singer Jack Black and singer Lizzo appearing as Captain Bombardier and The Duchess. Another fan-favorite actor who appeared in many fandoms like Back To The Future can be seen: Christopher Lloyd as Commissioner Helgait.
Another cameo is that of Catherine Taber (Padmé from The Clone Wars) voicing the automated voice guiding the ship of Bo-Katan and Din Djarin to their landing spot, as well as the hyperloop voice.
A yellow scurrier can be seen hopping off the table as Din Djarin and Bo-Katan arrive. It appears later again on the table.
A Spamel finally makes a better appearance in live-action. This creature was designed for Rogue One, but can barely be glimpsed. In this episode you can see its body and legs on the right when Bombardier says “Come! Everyone, special guests.”. After this, pay attention for the creature lurking in the background during the diner party and at the end of the episode as Din Djarin and Bo-Katan receive their honors.
The expression “the elephant in the room” now also has a Star Wars equivalent, with the elephant being replaced by a bantha. Which is ironic, as the original banthas where played by an elephant called Mardji.
Bombardier claims that he and his wife are both royals and elected leaders of their planet. This is not the first time we saw this, as it happens on Naboo as well.
Commissioner Helgait mentions Karthon as the place where the droids were to be scrapped at. This is the prison moon where Migs Mayfield ended up on in Chapter 15.
The Aurebesh in the middle of the security screens mentions Section 7G, which is a reference to The Simpsons, as this was where Homer works in the nuclear facility. In fact, his workstation is not too different from that of Commissioner Helgait.
The first droid seen to be malfunctioning in security camera footage is a Short-Range Transport droid. Also known as a forklift droid, this is the same kind of droid seen on Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, trying to shake off C-3PO.
The failsafe cutoff switch is another one for the long list of big red buttons seen in Star Wars.
Matthew Wood returns once again to voice the B-1 battle droids.
In the peacekeeping zone there are a lot of Aurebesh neon signs to translate. We will not list them all here, but we do point out some of the better ones: Coo’s, Flaming Lizard, Joanno Café, Pew (an obvious joke to the Pewpew sound the blasters make), The Orbit and Sword Fish Diner.
A store that can be seen is Gray Scooters (signage giving the name of the store), selling the same kind of scooter bikes that the Mods drove on in The Book Of Boba Fett. However, they are now without any modifications, and all painted white.
Among the many returning droid types, the constable droids are new.
As said, many familiar and known droids return in the episode, but in The Resistor we see a couple lesser known ones as well:
*Sitting with the RIC-series general labor droid is a FD4 fighting droid and a 4XB programming droid, both from Solo.
*A MPH power droid (also from Solo) is seen when the droids respond to the humans among them that have just arrived.
*An Engineer droid from The Book of Boba Fett can be seen playing Sabacc with RX-pilot droids.
*Difficult to spot, but there is a WED Treadwell droid in the cantina. Its head can be seen when the droids all chatter to offer their support to help Din Djarin and Bo-Katan.
The Bartender Droid of The Resistor was voiced by Seth Gabel, the husband of Bryce Dallas Howard who directed this episode. Gabel is an actor known for the TV series Fringe and Salem.
Nepenthe and Spark Pads are new details introduced in this episode.
Nano droids were seen before, more or less if they were not so small that is, as part of the bombing of the Jedi Temple in The Clone Wars that led to Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order.
The Aurebesh seen when looking at Commissioner Helgait’s file reads: “This means nothing. However, fans may interpret the hell out of it. CSI FTW”
“If that isn’t the Quacta calling the Stifling slimy” returns, first heard in Chapter 16, it is now spoken by Commissioner Helgait.
The music heard during Grogu’s knighting, is actually the same as the music heard when Grogu left with Luke at the end of Season 2 and when we later see some of Grogu’s training by Luke.
