80 years ago today on Sunday 14th May 1944 in Modesto, California George Walton Lucas Jr was born. The only son of George Sr and Dorothy, Lucas would change the world, going on a journey that would take him from Modesto and the wreckage of his Autobianchi Bianchina in 1962 to starting Lucasfilm in 1971, a company that would bring the world THX-1138, American Graffitti, Indiana Jones, Willow, ILM, Sprocket Systems / Skywalker Sound, Graphics group / Pixar, EditDroid, LucasArts / Lucasfilm Games and of course the keystone of it all; Star Wars.

There’s no adequate way to thank Lucas for everything he’s had a hand in, from changing the landscape of visual effects to leaving us a cultural juggernaut in the form of the galaxy far, far away and the ultimate action hero Doctor Henry Jones Jr, so in lieu of shaking his hand to say ‘thank you George‘ we’ll do exactly what he wanted us to do when he stared Lucasfilm 53 years ago and enjoy the heck out of it all.
