Available in hardback and ready to buy on Amazon, Galactic Plastic delves into the playsets and vehicles of the original vintage Star Wars range, covering a number of licensees including Meccano and Palitoy.

SECOND volume our new series of books in HARDCOVER format emphasizing high-quality visuals, original-format documents whenever possible, and essential information resulting from two decades of research. Discover the vehicles/spaceships, playsets, and accessories from the “Star Wars” / “Guerre des Etoiles” mini-action figure toy line marketed in Europe and France.

STAR WARS / “Guerre des Etoiles” (French) toys hit the shelves in the United States (KENNER) and Europe in 1978, and mini-action figures were quickly established as flagship products. Licenses for toy distribution were granted in all major European countries to subsidiaries of General Mills, such as PALITOY for United Kingdom and MECCANO for France, and to other leading toy companies in their respective domestic markets. Products were initially adapted to the domestic markets through specific packaging. Then, European licensees made arrangements to share the means of production, gradually standardizing the products and marketing with the “Return of the Jedi” range in 1983. This was the advent of multilingual packaging bearing the three main logos in English, Spanish, and French on the front and back of the boxes, the “BILOGO” packaging line, shortly followed by the “TRILOGO” packaging, in the fall of 1984, recognizable from the three main cascaded logos.

This is a companion volume to “The Legendary Ads” (2021) which brought a new marketing perspective to the fabulous advertising and promotional campaigns implemented for Star Wars toys in France during the original-trilogy era.
