The Acolyte: Thoughts Part Two

Finally, it’s the new Star Wars series The Acolyte! Set 100 years after The High Republic and 100 years before The Phantom Menace, here are my thoughts on episodes five to eight.

The Acolyte Chapter 5 – Night

  • She comes to after being brutally attacked and thinks of Pip?
  • LOTS OF DEAD JEDI
  • Is his helmet and braces made of…cortosis?
  • Saber kebab!
  • Why didn’t stun work?
  • I thought a Wookiee lightsaber would be huge!
  • The Stranger gives the ol’ Michael Myers head tilt.
  • Mae vs. X-23
  • Head butt with the helmet.
  • And of course, it’s Qmir!
  • HE KILLED YORD!
  • This Sith is more charismatic than the other Sith we’ve seen in Star Wars.
  • A Mace Windu/Palpatine moment.
  • And the sisters switch places…

The Acolyte Chapter 6 – Teach/Corrupt

  • Back to 2 word titles since the twins are apart again!
  • Elephant birds shown frequently.
  • “Unknown Planet” but my first thought was Ahch-To.
  • Bazil knows who’s who!
  • Anguish!
  • The Sith sure is scarred. Is that a lightwhip scar?
  • Of course he knows she’s there the whole time!
  • I guess Mae wants to kill again.
  • Politics with Vernestra Ro and an annoying Padawan.
  • He was a Jedi “A long time ago.” He said the thing…
  • Rebooting Pip like he was an Iphone.
  • Talk of emotions. The Dark Side is one-sided!
  • True intentions? See what you want to see…
  • Mae is projecting her own feelings.
  • Ah, Sol finally figured it out. Guess he calmed down.
  • Wouldn’t they have crawled into each other?
  • The Power of Two: That’s a Sith thing! Plagueis/Palpatine, Palpatine/Maul, etc.
  • Ah, they named cortosis. It’s a sensory deprivation helmet, how do you see out of it (I guess the Force calls for blindness).
  • Lightwhip!
  • Tip the scales.
  • DARTH VADER BREATHING!

The Acolyte Chapter 7 – Choice

  • Back to Brendok
  • A metal detector for Wookiees
  • HYPERSPACE DISASTER!
  • Vergence (like with Anakin)
  • Create life!
  • Force Cult – witches!
  • See, this is why nobody likes the Jedi!!
  • Torben just wants to go back to Coruscant and it’s allowing the Mother to enter his brain!
  • She’s conducting this conversation in his brain while having a regular conversation with the Jedi on the outside!
  • Did the Jedi alter Mae and Osha’s destiny?
  • A high “M” Count
  • Is symbiotes the right word? 1 consciousness, 2 bodies.
  • The fire turns out to be accident after all. Mae doesn’t seem to be as psycho as in Osha’s recollection…
  • The Mother just turned to smoke and I think Mae was about to!
  • And the bio mother gets away!
  • WOOKIEE JEDI FIGHT!
  • Now we see how Torbin got his scars – would this be considered a Madclaw type thing?
  • Did Trinity just kill all the witches by pushing back with the Force?
  • The truth, from a certain point of view!
  • Oooh, a song!

The Acolyte Chapter 8 – The Acolyte

  • Final Chapter, here we go!
  • Looks like Osha has some of her Mom’s powers to get into people’s head with the black eyes…
  • The future isn’t fixed!
  • Back to Brendok
  • Right for us to intervene.” Damn, the Jedi were arrogant!
  • NOT TWINS?
  • Coldest line ever: “See you in hell, Jedi!
  • So now Mae is back to her old self.
  • Bazil is sabotaging like crazy to stop Sol from doing something stupid!
  • Mae talks to Pip the same way Osha did…
  • That Senator! External campaign against the Jedi, unchecked power, religion!
  • THE MASTER IS SEEN! Is that Darth Plagueis?
  • The voice on speaker with Vernestra Rwoh sounded a bit like Palpatine, but he wouldn’t have been around then.
  • Vernestra not going alone–does everybody knows she gets sick during hyperspace?
  • I noticed that every Jedi/Sith is relying on their Force abilities to get into the fort except Osha. She’s not confident in her Force powers and relies on technology.
  • Another bad-ass duel!
  • Qimir has  twosamurai lightsabers, much like Ahsoka.
  • Osha’s Luke moment.
  • They’re not twins: Same person. Life was created by the Force.
  • Sol confesses and Osha heard it all.
  • Not very Jedi like to say he loves his former apprentice.
  • Force Choke by Osha!
  • SHE BLED THE CRYSTAL ON-SCREEN! The saber effect is crazy!
  • So Qimir is Vernestra’s former Padawan! He claimed to be older than he looks, maybe he’s a long-lived alien humanoid species!
  • The Helmet prevents mind-reading much like Magneto in X-Men. Is it the cortosis?
  • There’s always a figure bending down over a fallen figure like Obi-Wan over Luke or Emperor Palpatine over Vader.
  • Memory Wipe!
  • The Jedi don’t know who’s who because they never met Mae and Osha was only there for a short time–anybody who really knew her is dead!
  • Ro with the fancy robes!
  • THREW SOL UNDER THE BUS! Why? To make things nice and neat?
  • Like his spiritual successor, Sol got a viking/fiery funeral. If she saved his body, the Jedi could have done an autopsy and figured out how he died.
  • VIOLINS! I wondered deep down if that was Amandla Stenberg playing the violin like she did on Jimmy Fallon and that Starwars.com video.
  • Hey it’s Yoda? Is she going to tell him the truth or what she came up with as a coverup?

Final Thoughts

  • So the Vergence is the planet and that’s how the twins were created by the Mother (although after reading The High Republic books, the only Mother I see is the one from the Path and giving gifts freely). Anakin was the Vergence in the Force and apparently created by either Plagueis or Palpatine.
  • Did Plagueis get the virgin birth idea from the Mother and Mae/Osha? Do it better with Anakin?
  • The Mother had a full symbol on her forehead, Mae had hers on one side of her head, would Osha gotten hers on the other side? Are they a “clone” of Mother?
  • The bio Mother survived and has a chip on her shoulder! Can she do the smoke thing?
  • By the end of the series, the twins have switched places: the kind-hearted Osha willingly became a Sith acolyte after killing her former Jedi master in anger. Mae had her memory wiped up until she left Brendok so she’s a little girl essentially. She was told she was Osha by the Jedi because a Jedi Force mind scan would show she had no idea who she is.
  • All Torbin wanted to do was go back to Coruscant. He finally went back to Coruscant after his mind was taken over by witches and then got himself disfigured by a Wookiee. He evidently took a Padawan but then took the Barash vow on a completely foreign planet and eventually killed himself.
  • The Jedi Wookiee Kelnacca allowed his mind to be taken over and nearly kills 3 Jedi in the process. He essentially exiles himself and is killed by a Sith.
  • Only Sol and Indara are relatively unaffected by what happened on Brendok. I think it’s because they fully bought into the cover story they made up. “From a certain point of view!
  • Vernestra completely destroyed Sol’s reputation. Granted, Sol did wrong but to be accused of over a dozen Jedi’s deaths is pretty extreme. Now Jedi history will show Sol to be a killer!
  • Vernestra Rwoh was a big deal during the High Republic, the youngest Jedi Knight ever. Now she’s a political being, reporting to the Senate and making up cover stories to fit her purpose. Did she mention to Yoda about her former Padawan? Probably not, that would have messed up her cover story about Sol being a psycho.
  • I guess Ki-Adi Mundi was right about the Sith after all. He only heard the term in a short briefing 100 years prior and it was disproved by lying Jedi.
  • Speaking of Sith, I want to know more about Qimir. He was once a Jedi? A Padawan of Vernestra Ro?
Michael Davis
Michael Davis
Michael F. Davis became obsessed with Star Wars after repeated viewings of The Empire Strikes Back on VHS and a 1983 viewing of Return of the Jedi in movie theaters. He also saw all the Special Editions in the theater, bought all the Shadows of the Empire tie-ins, and even took a bus trip to Maine to see The Phantom Menace. He is currently employed as a Librarian in the US but has always has his sights on a galaxy far, far, away….
