It’s been a busy couple of days for Star Wars movie news. Steven Knight has left the New Jedi Order project, while Daisy Ridley said that news on the project is ‘imminent’. Word is that James Mangold believes his Dawn of the Jedi project will go before the cameras in 2025, and now we learn that after four months filming mostly on the Volume The Mandalorian & Grogu has completed principal photography. Screenrant (via Puck News) claim that the shoot went smoothly, which given Favreau’s skill as a producer and director is hardly surprising, and now we wait for 22nd May 2026 and the arrival of the film on the big screen.
The Mandalorian & Grogu, the next Star Wars movie, has wrapped filming and is on track for a May 2026 release. Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his delightful ward brought Star Wars to Disney+ back in 2019, and the duo is leading the charge back to theaters with The Mandalorian & Grogu. Production on Star Wars’ next movie officially began in July this year, with relatively few leaks or set photos due to use of the Volume.
The latest report from Puck News reveals that production of The Mandalorian & Grogu has wrapped. It means the movie is on track for a release date of May 22, 2026, given this is plenty of time for post-production. Filming has evidently run smoothly, with no issues, a testament to director Jon Favreau’s skill.
There’s still plenty of work to be done as the movie enters the post production phase. There will almost certainly be reshoots baked into the schedule, ILMVFX can really get their teeth into the VFX, Ludwig Gorranson can work on the score, Pedro Pascal can lend his voice to the character once again and the fandom can prepare for some impressive fireworks as we ponder just what this story could bring us. Din Djarin is essentially a marshall of the New Republic, tasked with bringing down members of the Imperial Remnant, and as the final scenes of Ahsoka showed Grand Admiral Thrawn leaving the Peridea galaxy and heading back to the GFFA could we be gearing up for a meeting between the two? There’s clearly plenty of juicy plot real estate to build some engaging stories upon.
