Not that kids in the 70’s and 80’s had it hard when it came to Star Wars book releases – we were practically spitting out Ewok fur for all of the Endor-based kids books that came our way back in the day – but young readers today are certainly not short of great books to either enter the GFFA, learn more about it or to simply enjoy. And speaking of short, Be More Yoda by Christian Blauvelt is fantastic fun, bringing just the right amount of self-help usefulness to a book packed with Jedi wisdom.
Covering moments from every corner of the Star Wars saga, Be More Yoda is far more of a self-help book than its dark counterpart Be More Vader. Indeed, young kids would do well to heed many of the lessons, especially those dealt out by the uber-Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who treated Anakin as a keen student eager to learn rather than a subordinate who needed to be controlled. What kid’s not going to respond to the wise words of Master Yoda, or the streetwise knowledge of Jyn Erso?
Much like Be More Vader, this is a book and a concept that would stand up to more releases. Who wouldn’t want Be More Han, with words of wisdom from our favourite Corellian smuggler throughout his career, or Be More Jabba, encouraging you to indulge in the slimier things in life. Naturally, Be More Leia is the most obvious inspirational choice. Let’s hope DK are already considering more entries in this series.
Released alongside Be More Vader, not only does this aesthetically look very attractive on the bookshelf (hats off to Senior Designer Clive Savage and team) but it’s the perfect Christmas present for kids of all ages. Here’s to the next one!
