LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy – Pieces of the Past

“LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past” continues the story that began in 2024 with “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.” A new threat rises in the galaxy, and Sig and Dev Greebling must combine their powers of Force Building and Sith Breaking to stop it. Alongside Jedi Bob, Yesi Scala, and Servo, they will journey into the deepest corners of LEGO® Star Wars lore, uncovering pieces of all the galaxies that have come before.

Returning voice cast includes Gaten Matarazzo as Sig Greebling, Tony Revolori as Dev Greebling, Bobby Moynihan as Jedi Bob, Marsai Martin as Yesi Scala, Michael Cusack as Servo, Billy Dee Williams as Landolorian, Ahmed Best as Darth Jar Jar, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Sam Witwer as Maul, Helen Sadler as Darth Rey, Phil LaMarr as Darth Kit Fisto, Matthew Wood as General Grievous, Jake Green as Greedo, Shelby Young as Princess Leia, Piotr Michael as Yoda, Matt Sloan as Jedi Vader, Trevor Devall as Jedi Master Sheev, Dee Bradley Baker as Darth Nubs, Naomi Ackie as Jedi Jannah, Kevin Michael Richardson as Jedi Jabba the Hutt, Kelly Marie Tran as Darth Rose Tico. Special guest appearance by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

The sequel series welcomes Dan Stevens as Solitus, Ben Schwartz as Jaxxon, Jennifer Hale as Viper, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Catherine Taber as Pirate Queen Amidala, Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis, Andre Sogliuzzo as Cassian Andor, Nika Futterman as Asajj Ventress, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Brian George as Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Alan Tudyk as K-2SO.

“LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past” is written and executive produced by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, and the director is Chris Buckley. James Waugh, Jacqui Lopez, Josh Rimes, Jill Wilfert, Jason Cosler, and Keith Malone are executive producers. The producers are Daniel Cavey & Dan Langlois. Produced in collaboration with Atomic Cartoons.

On 13th September 2024, Disney Plus unveiled LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, a four-part series that delighted the fandom (especially those of a brickish persuasion) and introduced nerf-herder Sig Greebling and his brother Dev (aka Darth Devastator) as they fight to retrieve the Cornerstone, a powerful brick that can change reality and make good guys bad, and bad guys good. Thanks to Rebuild the Galaxy we finally meet Darth Jar Jar, get to know light side Paloatine and Darth Vader, and welcome a slew of voice actors both familiar (Anthony Daniels, Dee Bradley Baker, Naomi Ackie, Mark Hamill and Ahmed best amongst others) and new (Bobby Moynihan, Gaten Matarazzo and Tony Revolori) to the galaxy far, far away. Step forward a year and the gang are back in Rebuild the galaxy – Pieces of the Past, and it’s my pleasure to say that the fantastically fun first season has been surpassed by a second season that is more fun than it has any right to be.

Brothers Sig and Dev are back, squabbling as they always do, and joined by Bobarian “Jedi Bob” Afol (Bobby Moynihan), Servo (Michael Cusack) and Yesi Scala (Marsai Martin) the adventures continue as the tyrannical Solitus (Dan Stevens) returns to wreak revenge on his former padawan Jedi Bob and by doing so tear the galaxy to pieces. It’s pacey, exciting, snappy, sniggeringly funny (there’s a lot of laughs in this one) and captures that breezy, optimistic spirit of Star Wars in a way that many adventures can’t quite manage.

As with the first season, the episodes are packed with in-jokes, easter eggs, and some fantastic guest stars. Mark Hamill is back as the most chilled out Luke Skywalker you could ever hope to meet, while Ahmed Best infuses Darth Jar Jar with a genuinely unsettling (phantom) menace that makes the thought of a canonical Darth Jar Jar oddly appealing. Sam Witwer is hilarious as Darth Maul (especially when you consider that he’s voiced the live action version in Solo and will bring the character to life – well, the top half at least – once again in Maul: Shadow Lord next year) and Anthony Daniels again nabs some hilarious lines. Also the presense of Pirate Queen Amidala voiced by Cat Taber means we really can get the Skywalker family together, bringing the family of four together in the miost delightful way.

Franchise newcomer Dan Stevens oozes primetime Palpatine creepiness as Solitus (another character who’d be very welcome in a Marvel Comics live action-style adaptation) and Alan Tudyk is back once again as K-2SO, every bit as sardonic and droll as his live action counterpart and a fantastic bookend along with his return in Andor season 2. Along with Nika Futterman who brings us a heroic Asajj Ventress and Cameron Monaghan bringing Cal Kestis directly from the Jedi computer games and you have one of the best Star Wars casts ever assembled.

Visually it’s a treat, with a special shout out to the starship sequences which flow beautifully and are gorgeous to watch and to whoever decided to bring brickhead Ahsoka into the story (from another Star Wars LEGO universe) deserves a raise, as it works on so many levels, looks great and gives Ashley Eckstein yet another memorable moment as Ahsoka. Ditto Ben Schwartz as Jaxxon, a character who has been a part of the Star Wars story since 1977 but somehow still feels like an interloper. If you’re in need of a smile, then this is absolutely the show you’re looking for.

Watching the four episodes I was initially determined to note all of the easter eggs, but quickly realised that no, that’s not the point of Pieces of the Past. It has the scattergun approach of The Simpsons, spraying jokes, visuals, easter eggs and more at such a high pace it’s best to just sit back and (just like the hate) let it flow through you. Except this is Rebuild the Galaxy, so the ‘hate’ is the ‘love’, and what better way is there to celebrate Star Wars than that?

We were fortunate enough to talk with the writers and executive producers of both seasons of Rebuild the Galaxy, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, a chat you can watch here.
