All the while, LEIA ORGANA has struggled to convince other systems to join her in this new era for the galaxy.

We’re very used to our heroes getting themselves into sticky situations, and for readers who enjoy seeing such tricky moments then the opening pages of Star Wars (2025) #6 is custom-tailored as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Beilert Valance kit up in Clone Trooper armour, each easily identified by their lightsaber and glowing red cyborg eye behind the helmet, and listen as Valance reminds Solo to be thankful that he never progressed further than being a Mimban mudtrooper while Luke reminds them both how deadly Battle Droids and their overwhelming numbers can be. Flip the page and it’s a dynamic Butch and Sundance moment as the three leap into the fray, blasters roaring as they surprise the Battle Droids, trying to figure out how to save the missing Rynn as Luke spots lots – lots and lots – of Battle Droids and AAT-1 Armored Assault Tank heading their way, the Blockade Runner perched in the distance on the ridge of a sand dune.
We cut to Chandrila and General Organa and Mon Mothma as they assess the current state of play. With the Fenril Consortium fleet heading towards them and hopes for peace seemingly hanging by a thread, Mon tells Leia that diplomacy has failed, but Organa reminds her that no one ever said it was going to be easy, and that she has already responded, and with that we’re back in the fray on Loradil as the weight of numbers start to overwhelm them, Luke now lost in the melee and we see him tucked away under a section of an AAT-1, meditating for advice from Yoda and Obi-Wan. The Battle Droids quickly assess the scene, realising where he must be hiding and try to draw him out when suddenly they start to explode, destroyed by an unseen force and moments later Luke is stood before the lead droid, slicing it down.
Solo and Valance see Luke’s play, and as Han judges whether they can make a run for the Millennium Falcon and find Rynn, Beilert moves forward to give him the opening by blasting away with his palm cannons and Han moves towards his ship and more droids.
Meanwhile, Rynn is with members of the downed Blockade Runner (which we learn is called the Necrim’s Wake), and we quickly see who they are accompanying, a Nagai called Marntiv who is a follower of Garlev and ready to fight for the Nagai cause despite opposition from Zantarrk and the Fenril Consortium. He wants to get to Kaltrais to help stop the imminent tyranny Reyna Oskure is planning, and with that we cut back to Luke battling Battle Droids and see a very satisfying panel of Luke leaping in to fight mirroring one of Anakin doing the same during the Clone Wars. He’s doubting himself again, whether he has what he needs to save his friends and avoid the temptations that engulfed his father, but as we see Solo finally overwhelmed and seemingly about to be taken out he is saved by Luke, Valance, Rynn, Marntiv and the crew of the Necrim’s Wake. Solo is keen to get back to Chandrila, but Luke disagrees, explaining that they need to head to Kaltrais to help the Nagai take a shot at gaining their freedom, a gambit Solo readily agrees to.
Kaltrais, and Reyna Oskure who is discussing the situation with an impatient Prime Minister Almovar. Oskure suggests patience, but Almovar is annoyed, reminding Oskure of the wealth and power she promised her. The pieces are in place, but their conversation of interrupted by a Stormtrooper who enters to tell them of a Nagai attack on their forces, and as they leave the room and head down the corridor we see New Republic Agent Bastion watching from the shadows, confirming they are heading out to intercept and we cut to Leia Organa as she praises bastion for her good work, telling her she knows her orders and to do what she must for the New Republic.
While still expositionally heavy and tricky to follow in places (again, the much-missed, third-person narrative boxes could do a lot of heavy lifting, even though they would cover up some of the gorgeous Phil Noto artwork which adorns a book that is nourishment for the eyes). It’s interesting – for the moment – to see a hesitant, uncertain Luke but there is the concern that could get old, and it’s also engaging to see Mothma deflated but ready to fight as the Fenril Consortium move in with Leia determined to find another way.
Once again, Segura finds the voices of the characters with ease, while Noto taps into some incredible spring of artistic creativity to give us these incredible versions of the characters we know and love, and while it feels like this storyline is now racing towards Kaltrais and a conclusion, the return of the Nagai, the presense of Valance and the top tier creative team makes this an always enjoyable read.
