Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #3

DEADLY ALLIANCES

Following the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, the galaxy is in a time of uncertainty. While the rebels forge a path toward peace, there are still those who would bring chaos and destruction. The war continues on in….

The New Republic struggled to take hold in the wake of the Battle of Endor, facing Moff Adelhard, the unrelenting Governor of the Anoat sector, intent on keeping the Empire alive. On Tatooine, the Spice Runners of Kijimi met with Bib Fortuna to gather allies for Adelhard. Wary of Adelhard’s threat, Leia recruited rebels Kes Dameron, Rynn Zenat, Jarek Yeager and Therisa Alern to travel to the sector and gather intel, but when they reached the sector, the team was ambushed and surrounded by an
unknown enemy!

Yupe Tashu and Reyna Oskure, agents of a mysterious cult known as the Acoltyes of the Beyond, sought an ancient compass from Palpatine’s observatory on Pillio, where Luke Skywalker was called by the Force. Seeking to intercept him, they sent Yuan Howzell, who allowed Luke to obtain the relic but warned him of the dark side’s endurance….

Issue #3 of The Battle of Jakku: Insurgency Rising picks up immediately where issue #2 ends, but the beginning does not have nearly the impact or excitement of its predecessor. It is a building block to move the story forward into a bigger finale for the first act of the 12-part series, which does pick up in the final six pages.

The New Republic’s disguised Barloz freighter “Oggrud” is surrounded by The Spice Runners of Kimiji and they have stated their intention to board the vessel. Leia Organa’s hand-picked operatives Rynn Zenat, Kes Dameron, Jarek Yeager, and Therisa Alern are at risk, but with some tricks up their sleeve.

Jumping to Chandrila, we meet Buccel via holo but his death certificate appears signed as his “Yungbrii retirement plans” are mentioned in a conversation with Calder Behrens—I think we know how this goes for him. Mon Mothma, Leia, and Calder regroup to discuss various intel that doesn’t seem to favor the New Republic cause. On Chandrila we also get a heartfelt exchange between Luke Skywalker and Leia—mentorship more than love, but intertwined.

Aboard his Star Destroyer, Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard learns of the issue faced by the Spice Runners. He also exchanges barbs with Reyna Oskure, both ally, and annoyance, of The Acolytes of the Beyond, until he is informed the freighter crew survived. The quartet has been captured an imprisoned on the Star Destroyer. And then this portion of the story ends with three frenetic elements:

A New Republic mole within Adlehard’s inner circle is revealed.

A red lightsaber helps introduce a post-Return of the Jedi Inquisitor.

A green lightsaber ushers a battle-ready Luke Skywalker into the equation.

Issue #4 is released on 6 November, so resolutions and next steps will be known quickly.
