Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Last Stand #2

THE DRUMS OF WAR

The New Republic was left vulnerable after stormtroopers invaded the fledgling government’s home planet, Chandrila, and made an attempt on General Leia Organa’s life. On the planet Gallowyss, Luke and his team discovered that Moff Adelhard, still alive and in control of his fleet, was the source of the attack. However, as Adelhard’s offensive began, they realized that this time, his motivations were not for power…but for terror.

Meanwhile, the Empire and its remaining leaders began their final strike against the New Republic above the desert world of Jakku….

…like a man possessed. Like a desperate friend. Or a panicked husband. And, certainly, a terrified father-to-be.

Han Solo is by himself in the Millennium Falcon. His pregnant wife has been attacked, again, so he must abandon Chewbacca as the Wookiees fight for their freedom and lives on Kashyyyk, to help protect his wife, unborn child, and the fledgling government he helped to empower. Just like anyone born before 1980 would expect Han to be doing after Return of the Jedi.

Han’s more predictable friend, Luke Skywalker, is also hurriedly heading back to Chandrila. He and Rynn Zenat are leaving Gallowyss, where Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard just slipped through their clutches to continue menacing the galaxy in the name of the former Empire, but not aligned with the Imperial Shadow Council, put in place by Emperor Palpatine himself. Adlehard has reclaimed the Scepter, his Star Destroyer, as his associates from The Acolytes of the Beyond are still wreaking havoc on Chandrila, and the Spice Runners of Kijimi continue the assault on Lando Calrissian.

At the New Republic capital, Leia Organa, Mon Mothma, and Agent Bastion walk through the carnage of the first attack on the city, before another surprise attack. This time by a deadly, caped, blaster-toting Dowutin Acolyte of the Beyond named Saycos Hawn. Leia takes control of the situation but gets too close and the enemy gets her in a stranglehold until Han shows up and blasts the fiend in the shoulder. Then, the married couple kiss, before everyone regroups in a control room as Luke and Rynn arrive.

More betrayal bubbles up on the Imperial side of things, and a rescue by a New Republic spy occurs, all while Counselor Gallius Rax and Grand Admiral Rae Sloane keep the Shadow Council plans for Jakku moving forward. Much jockeying remains for the final two issues of The Battle of Jakku maxi-series.
