Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Last Stand #4

ENDGAMES

Following the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, the galaxy is in a time of uncertainty. While the rebels forge a path toward peace, there are still those who would bring chaos and destruction. The war continues on in….

The New Republic began their defensive strikes against the Empire’s remaining forces, including Admirals Rax and Sloane. Luke, Rynn, Kranor and Alayita went to Kijimi to convince Tomasso and the Spice Runners to aid their cause when it was revealed that Rynn is Tomasso’s daughter–a spice runner who left to join the Rebel cause. Meanwhile, as Adelhard’s troops in the Anoat sector prepared to strike against the Acolytes of the Beyond, an ally of the New Republic intervened–Pirate Eleodie Maracavanya. A three-way fight between the New Republic, the shattered remains of the Empire and the rogue Adelhard’s forces has begun. With the fate of the galaxy at stake, the final Battle of Jakku has begun. This is the last chance for the New Republic….

On the fifth page of “Endgames,” the final issue of this 12-issue maxi-series, there is a special thanks to author Chuck Wendig, who wrote the Aftermath Trilogy. And if you enjoyed this journey, and have yet to read the Aftermath Trilogy—punch it, Chewie!

Alex Segura and team provide a climax that hops throughout the galaxy while tying up the loose ends of this story. From the sands of Jakku to an Imperial Observatory, and Kijimi to the Anoat sector, no one is left out of the culminating action.

Luke Skywalker gets to face Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard one last time. It doesn’t go how Luke wants it to. Han Solo gets to play hero pilot, while back above Jakku, Admiral Ackbar still outmaneuvers his enemies in space battles—all leading to, once again, momentary success for the fledgling New Republic.

Some Imperial factions remain while others have been extinguished—does any galaxy or society ever get the chance to rest against evil and those who want ultimate power and control over others? We already know what is forthcoming from Exegol

Speaking of Exegol, on one of the final pages of this issue we also get to meet the newest member of the Solo family—just before an introduction to someone new and hooded “somewhere in the Fenril sector.”

As cloaked figures bargain at a cantina table, the words of one let the reader know there is no real peace when others want “freedom from the oppressive rule of the New Republic…whatever the cost.”

This is a great mystery to close the series of a well-done, fun, and enjoyable collection of stories. Now it’s time for me to break out my three Aftermath books again.
