Star Wars #1 from Marvel Comics arrived 45 years ago today

On this day 45 years ago on 12th April 1977, the first issue of the six issue adaptation of Star Wars arrived on newsstands across the United States. Not only did it kickstart a pop culture phenomenon that would build and build and build to where it remains nearly half a century later as an icon of cinema, but its record-breaking sales almost single-handedly saved Marvel Comics from extinction during those perilous days of the mid 70’s.
