Daniel Ings who is next to be seen on our screens in the Westeros based A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series has joined the cast of 'Star Wars: Starfighter.'
A trio of Fantha Trackers traveled to Edinburgh for last weekend’s Capital Sci-Fi Con, rocking out to live music from Darth Elvis and The Imperials, Blues Harvest and the one and only DJ Elliot.
The Capital Sci-Fi team have sent out this press release, detailing the event itself and the charity aspect, which is what it was all about.
Capital Sci-Fi Con – Edinburgh’s not-for-profit sci-fi, movie and pop culture event – exploded into the city this weekend, with thousands of big-hearted sci-fi fans gathering together to raise money for Children’s Hospice’s Across Scotland (CHAS).
In its third year, the family friendly two day convention, held at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, celebrated sci-fi, movie, pop culture and all things cosplay.
The whole event is organised by community superhero Keith Armour and his inspirational group of volunteer ‘causeplayers’ – cosplayer’s who fundraise for a good cause.
Highlights from the weekend include appearances from the seventh Doctor Who, Sylvester McCoy and his companion, Sophie Aldred as well as prop exhibitions from iconic film and TV sets such as the Terminator, Thunderbirds and the legendary interactive Walking Dead season three prison set.
The annual cosplay competition closed the weekend and saw 80 contestants from all over the UK compete. Judges crowned Alexander Hepburn (age nine) best in show for the under 15 category for his amazing Dalek costume. And in the 16 and over category, Zoe Vengenz won best in show for her imaginative Rhaella Tygaryen costume. A special award went to Adam Scott (17), who has been using Rachel House with his family for two and a half years, for his Jedi costume.
Volunteer organiser of the event and community superhero, Keith Armour said: “I’m overwhelmed with the success of the third Capital Sci-Fi Con. CHAS will always hold a special place in my heart and the money raised from the weekend, which is still being counted, will go a long way towards supporting babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions across the whole of Scotland.
“I want to thank the amazing ‘causeplayers’ and my committee for their dedication, passion and commitment to Capital Sci-Fi Con. I couldn’t do it without them.”
Laura Campbell, CHAS Community Fundraiser, said:“Keith and his team of ‘causeplayers’ are a phenomenal group of fundraisers. Through their infectious passion for all things sci-fi and giving back to the community, over the years they’ve managed to raise a staggering amount. The total raised from this weekend is still being counted, but we expect it to top last year’s £75,000.
“We can’t thank Keith and the ‘causeplayers’ enough for their support, and we simply couldn’t do the work we do without them and the rest of our passionate and committed supporters. Three children die every week in Scotland from a life-shortening condition, and at the moment, we’re only able to reach one of those families. We’re on a mission at CHAS to reach every family that needs us, and events like Capital Sci-Fi Con help us to connect with new audiences and further us on that mission.
“Even though Capital Sci-Fi Con 2018 is over, you can still get involved by wearing your favourite ‘Geeky T-Shirt’ on 2 March and donating £2 to CHAS – so assemble the troops and stand strong behind us!”
All profits raised by Capital Sci-Fi Con are donated to CHAS – the only charity in Scotland that provides hospice services for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions. The national charity offers palliative care and respite for the whole family via its two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch. Its CHAS at Home service supports families in their own homes across the whole of Scotland and has teams working in communities and hospitals across the country.
