For an actor who’s films are in the top ten lists of a huge amount of cinemagoers, Harrison Ford was recently asked to choose which of his many movies (58 if you include next months Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny with 2 turns as Thadeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in the MCU soon to follow) are his favourites.
There’s plenty to choose from. Consider this run; from The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 he made 10 films, but when you look at what those films were (1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1982 Blade Runner, 1983 Return of the Jedi, 1984 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1985 Witness, 1986 The Mosquito Coast, 1988 Frantic and Working Girl) you could argue that’s a run matched only by Steven Spielberg and John Williams. Talk about Hobsons choice.
The list contains one bona fide box office monster (Raiders) and three performance led films. Interestingly, the film for which he recieved his only Academy Award nomination so far (1985’s Witness) doesn’t make his list, but 1986’s Mosquito Coast (also for director Peter Weir) does.
