As we forge on into the third decade of the 21st century, it’s easy to forget the incredible innovations the 90’s brought us. Many of those innovations came from Lucasfilm, and just as LucasArts were making waves in the online world, so ILM were showing the world the power of the pixel on the small screen with The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. Speaking on 14th October 2023 at the Waterloo Historical Film Festival, Young Indy producer (and future Prequel trilogy producer) Rick McCallum sat down with Young Indy director René Manzor to discuss the show and the innovations of brought forth.

Indiana Jones retired this year, but did you know that he fought in the First World War in the Belgian army? Between 1992 and 1993, the series “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”, dreamed up by George Lucas, took us back to the hero’s early years to revisit the history of the early 20th century. Rick McCallum, producer of the series and Star Wars, and René Manzor, director of several episodes, will be giving a masterclass giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the series and its innovations in terms of storytelling, filming and special effects, which paved the way for the Star Wars prequels, which was produced by the same team.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Rick, but you can read my interview with him from way back in 2007 right here.
