Following on from his hugely successful You Can Draw Star Wars series, Matt Busch is back with new episodes of Illustrating Star Wars, but this time out we look at something a bit different, Matts history with the R7 droid, an astromech he first drew in the much-loved WEG Adventure Journal back in the mid 90’s.

Star Wars Artist Matt Busch shares the wild history of how the R7 Astromech Droid first came to be in the early 90’s. Though it was mentioned first in the Dark Empire comic book series from Dark Horse Comics, Matt was the first to officially illustrate what the droid looks like for the Star Wars Adventure Journal, published in 1995 from West End Games. Since then, the R7 has made appearances in many different games and Hasbro has release a number of variant action figures.

Be sure to check out our interview with Matt from way back in 2005 right here.
