TONY GILROY IN CONVERSATION
1 hr 30 min

Releasing on Jun 8, 2025

One of the most successful screenwriters of his generation, Tony Gilroy has excelled at uncovering the humanity of deeply conflicted characters. His Oscar-nominated directorial debut Michael Clayton featured a world-weary George Clooney as a legal fixer who discovers corruption at his own firm, and his work on The Bourne Identity franchise transformed its government-sanctioned hitman into a righteous one-man army.

All of that set him up for his most ambitious achievement to date. With his masterful show Andor, Gilroy has brought his talent for spycraft to a galaxy far, far, away, injecting it with real-world stakes and profound implications about the nature of resistance in dark times. In the show, which sets the stage for Rogue One and the classic 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope, future rebel leader Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) gradually learns to stand up to the shadowy forces of the Empire and lead an underground effort to set things right.

Join Gilroy and Playhouse artistic director Eric Kohn for a conversation about the evolution of his suspenseful storytelling, with clips from throughout his career, including the latest season of Andor. Even if you know nothing about Star Wars, you won’t want to miss this deep-dive into the creative process of a master storyteller.

The Southampton Playhouse is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations and proceeds from this event will support community programming.
