On 12th June 1981, Raiders of the Lost Ark landed in 1078 theaters, helmed by Hollywood’s hottest director and the maker of the highest grossing movie of all time, going on to win five Academy Awards and become the 4th highest grossing movie of all time (behind only Star Wars, Jaws and The Empire Strikes Back). Spending over 40 weeks in the US box office top ten, it raided $354m at the worldwide box office on its way to becoming an iconic franchise, and the gold standard of movies all on its own. Many happy returns to Raiders, and to celebrate we vigourously recommend you drop a disc into your DVD player (or go truly vintage and slap a VHS into the video) and relive the adventure.
