Star Wars Block: Over 100 Words Every Fan Should Know

The world of Star Wars is rich with content, from its iconic characters to its stunning locations. This sixth installment in the Abrams Block Book series and the first title based on a licensed property takes readers on a tour through Star Wars, featuring popular characters and moments from all eight films so far, including Rogue One.

As in the previous books, Star Wars Block includes die-cut shapes on every spread, and the charming art of British design team Peskimo. Additionally, each spread features important words every Star Wars fan, from the littlest Skywalker to the most seasoned fan, should know.

There is certainly no shortage of great titles for Star Wars fans of every age to tuck into and enjoy and Star Wars Block: Over 100 Words Every Fan Should Know from Abrams is absolutely no exception. After last years utterly charming 99 Stormtroopers Join The Empire, Abrams are showing themselves to be at the head of the herd when it comes to kids books that the grown-ups can enjoy.

Designed and drawn by Bristol based husband and wife team Peskimo, this runs us through the events of the saga in chronological order, from the beginning of the story in The Phantom Menace right through to the latest saga chapter The Last Jedi. Rogue One is represented, so as it stands we’re including the full swathe of the big screen story.

Using die-cut shapes on each page, which is printed on firm card, it’s not a pop up book or a diorama book, but the clever placing of the images gives that impression and the beautifully stylised artwork is a treat. I’d be surprised if this didn’t start popping up on t-shirts and postcards in time.

The book just screams out for an extended edition in 2020 including tales from Solo: A Star Wars Story and Episode IX, and there’s certainly scope for future editions encompassing or focusing on the events of The Clone Wars, Rebels and Resistance. It’s a mini character guide, encyclopedia and for kids coming into the story this would be a great introduction.

And for the rest of us it’s a not-so guilty pleasure. An little gem.
