It’s incredible to consider that it’s now over six years since The Mandalorian arrived on Disney Plus, kicking off the streaming era of live action Star Wars TV just as the cinematic era was coming to a close with The Rise of Skywalker. One of the most prominent characters of those early season one episodes was the Client, portrayed by acclaimed German director Werner Herzog, continuing a grand tradition of prominent directors appearing onscreen after François Truffaut in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg in The Blues Brothers and continuing in May with the voice of Martin Scorsese in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Phillip Sledge from Cinemablend had the chance to put a question about The Mandalorian to Herzog while discussing his new his new Ghost Elephants documentary.

“Well, I never competed for that part. I was invited by Jon Favreau, and he wanted to have me, my face visible for many people out there in the world, because he loves my films, and he said people have to see what this man looks like.”
