Great news as new UK comic magazine ComicScene UK will be distributed in the UK’s biggest newsagent, WH Smith, from its December issue.
Renumbered to Volume 2, issue 0, the magazine will be essentially starting afresh with it’s newsstand relaunch. I have a vested interest in the magazine, having written the forthcoming article on 40 years of Star Wars Weekly.
The December issue will be renumbered Volume 2, Issue 0 and will be on sale from 19th December with articles on 40 years of Star Wars Weekly, 40 years of Star Lord and Starblazer and 40 years of Superman the Movie with an exclusive interview with director Richard Donner.
The magazine will also feature new 8 page indie comics section ‘State of Independents’, 8 page comic film and TV section ‘Tripwire’, a classic UK comics auction and price guide, ComicCon listings and events and all the latest comic world news. Volume 2, issue 1 will be on sale from 21st February.
Publisher Tony Foster said, “ComicScene UK are very excited to be able to promote new, classic, indie, small press and all aspects of comic culture on newsstands across the UK. We are starting afresh as we become accessible to potential new readers beyond subscribers and comic shops, so it is a good jumping on point for everyone.”
“We never expected to be on the shelves of WHSmith or in comic shops less than a year after launch! The response to the magazine has been fantastic. We now have an opportunity to shout out loud what’s available for creators and comic publishers beyond our fan base. Hopefully the magazine will help pick up more casual readers and drive footfall into specialist shops, comic conventions and events too. We hope all comic fans, comic shops and advertisers will continue to get behind the magazine and help ensure it has a successful future.”
Tony continued, ^We value the comic community support to ensure that future. If you haven’t already buy a copy, subscribe, try one of our specials or just share on social media we are here. As a small independent publisher we are proud of what has been achieved so far and appreciate and thank those who do share what we do, and I hope we’ve shown support back during the last twelve months. This wouldn’t have been possible without our readers, advertising support from the likes of Comichaus, Dundee Uni, GetMyComics, Mixam, the Lakes Comic Art Festival and DC Thomson alongside the thirty or so comic shops who from day one have continued to stock the magazine. All our stars and we hope more of you will come on board.”
